Then, when he lost the fight that would qualify him for the Pan American Games 2011, held in Guadalajara, Angel opted for going professional.
He has displayed an impressive power punch, knocking out his opponents in all sixteen of his wins. On November 15, 2014, Acosta faced his biggest test on Mexican warrior Victor Ruiz (17-3, 12KO’s). In a very tough match, Angel keep pushing the fight and the end came in the 6th round with a huge left hook over Ruiz. Acosta usually trains at the Barrio Obrero Gymnasium with Javier Arce, who is his co-manager together with Juan de León – the Puerto Rican trainer based in Buffalo, New York.
His last six fights, three in 2015 and three in 2016, have ended with knockouts. Angel does not mess around in the ring. Acosta won by TKO against Japhet Uutoni in February 2017. In May, he went to Japan and lost his first match by UD to Kosei Tanaka. He won by knockout against Juan Alejo.
His next bout is schedule for April 7, 2018 against Ryuji Hara (23-2).
