Blackwell in coma, was late stoppage at fault?

Chris Eubank Jr fought his way to a late stoppage over Nick Blackwell but some are saying that the stoppage should have occurred in the 8th RD. Blackwell was admitted to the hospital after the fight with bleeding in his brain and put into an induced coma, Eubank’s dad stepped in the ring after the 8th round and encourage his son to go on the defensive and avoid hitting Blackwell in the head and focus his efforts on his body after seeing the peril Blackwell may potentially have been in.

“If he doesn’t stop it and we keep beating him like this, one, he is getting hurt. Two, if it goes to a decision, why didn’t the referee stop the fight? I don’t get why,” Eubank Sr. told his son. “So maybe you shouldn’t leave it to the referee.”

The referee went on to stop the fight with 35 seconds left in the 10th round after the Doctor deemed Blackwell unfit to continue due to a swollen shut left eye. Eubank may have saved Blackwell’s life and career by listening to his father and waiting for the referee to stop the fight.
