Professional Fighters Association (PFA) launches today to represent ‘collective interests’ of fighters employed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)., according to a press release & website published.
The goal of “PFA”, much like unions for MLB, NBA..etc.. is to organize the athletes so that they can collectively bargain their terms and conditions of employment.
The team is compromised of vets in the sports law world, and includes ” Donald M. Fehr (Executive Director for NHL Players Association and MLB Players Association), Tony Clark (Executive Director for MLB Players Association), DeMaurice Smith (Executive Director for NFL Players Association) and Bob Foose (Executive Director for MLS Players Union) among others.
This comes right on the heels of the UFC being sold for 4.2B. In the four major sports that have unions, the revenue split is approximately 50/50. Recent reports show the UFC hovering sub 10%. Something is obviously wrong.
