Danny Jacobs’ Next: Charlo? Lee? Who?

Danny Jacobs’ stock rose more off a loss than many, many athletes enjoy from a win when he went neck and neck with Gennady Golovkin in March at Madison Square Garden.

The judges deemed GGG the victor in the middleweight title defense against the Brooklyn bred Jacobs, who impressed all mightily in the lead up to the tango and with his ring generalship on fight night against a bomber who many smarts predicted would separate him from his senses. Didn’t happen that way; to this day, I sporadically hear boxing fans discuss that scrap and declare their belief that Jacobs deserved the nod.

So, clearly, his visibility popped on that night. And that leads to the very natural reaction on the part of his beefed up fan base: when is Jacobs fighting again, and against who?

The answer is soon. And we’ve heard whispered names. Jermall Charlo versus Jacobs, a gym rat told me that today. And Irish Andy Lee’s name has been linked to the 32-2 30 year old Brooklyner. No, and no, said a source with knowledge of Jacob’s next. Charlo and Lee are not in the mix. Word of details on that plan will be furnished very, very soon, I was told.

Readers, you have any ideas that make sense for Jacob’s return to the ring? Talk to me!
