|CATAÑO, P.R. – Lightweight Kevin Nieves of Comerio, Puerto Rico was able to overcome his toughest fight to date when he was able to take home a well-deserved unanimous decision over Mexican Alex “Perro” Del Bosque in the main event of a card presented by Miguel Cotto Promotions on Saturday night at the Cosme Beitia Coliseum in Catano. Nieves who up his record to 10-1-1 with 5 knockouts, was the winner on all three scorecard by 78-74 over Del Bosque, who saw his record drop to 11-3, 8 KOs. “It was not an easy fight,”, said Nieves, who was the headliner of an eight fight card co-promoted by H2 Entertainment and RocNation Sports and was parte of the boxing series “Boxeo Al Maximo” “It was probably that must difficult fight of my career,” said the 23 year-old boxer, “He surprise in the first round and was on top me, but I was able to come back and little by little I was able to make it my fight. He started to lose some steam and I got my second win in the fifth round and show my great condition, I would have been able to go two more rounds with no problem” Del Bosque, 21, from Mexico, but residing in Dallas, Texas, showed some power in the first round, but Nieves took over in the second round with his boxing skills and hand-speed.In the co-feature bout of the evening18-year old John “E Terrible” Bauza (2-0, 32 KOs) of Catano stopped Mike Erosa at the 50 second mark of the second round to get his second win as professional boxer. Bauza had an amateur record of 170-8 was the USA youth national champion at 141 pounds. Fighting at 140 pounds Bauza had Erosa down in both the first and second round before the referee stop the fight. “I was a little nervous tonight, fighting at home. But I was able to control them,” said Bauza who was born and lived in Catano for eight years before moving to Trenton, New Jersey. Bauza who is link promotionally to RocNation Sports was 140 pound for the bout but plans on going down to 135 pound to box at the lower weight in the future.
Kelvin Nunez (14-0, 12 KO’s) of Carolina was able to stopped Jonuel Tapia (8-71-1, KO’s) in the third round , after stopping him in the four round of a bout they had back in February in Caguas. “This time he was a little better and I was more careful,” said Nunez, 22, who weighted-in at 202 pounds for this fight same as his opponent, “I cruiser weight (190 pounds) but my promoter ask me to come at the higher weight and since I was sick two weeks ago, I had to slow down my training”. Nunez dedicated the fight to Yeruel Manuel a young child with Leukemia. Middleweight Magdiel Cotto of Comerio stopped Antonio Alicea by TKO at the 2:50 minute mark of the first round. Cotto goes to 4-0 with 4 KO’s. He was a member of Puerto Rico National Team in the past Pan-American games. Cotto was 167 pounds for the fight but will continue to fight at 160 pounds. “The promoters ask to come in heavier because my opponent was not going to be able to make the pact weight, but I have no problem making 160,” said Cotto. In other action Yomar “The Magic” Alamo of Aguas Buenas, goes to 10-0 with seven knockouts by winning a unanimous decision over Gabriel Diazof Guyana, a man he had beaten in Febraury also by points “This fight was much more difficult than the first, but there was no doubt that I was the superior boxer in there tonight,” said Alamo. In a another bout Charlie Clemente of Carolina, goes to 12-0 with 5 knockouts by stopping Christian Lopez by TKO in the third round. Clemente score a knockdown in the second round with a right upper-cut to the body and Lopez did not come out for the third. “I am seating on my punches more and I did not move as much, so the fans will enjoy my fights more,” said Clemente, “When I seat on my punches I am able to land my shots with more power.” Bryan Chevalier up his record to 6-0-1 with six knockouts in the super bantamweight division by stopping Luis Ortiz at the 50 second mark of the third round and welterweight Derrieck Cuevas stays unbeaten at 7-0-1 with 5 knockouts by stopping Javier Garcia at 2:25 of the first round. This card will mark the debut of Miguel Cotto Promotions in the United States Hispanic television network who will televised the main fights next Saturday, June 11 at 9:00 p.m. (Eastern/Pacific).
