FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY – November 1, 2017: Mikaela Mayer has officially signed a deal with Everlast Worldwide to become the latest athlete to join TeamEverlast. Mikaela has been working with Everlast unofficially since her pro debut on August 5th in Los Angeles where she went on to win by way of knockout in the first round, making a strong statement and putting the Lightweight division on notice.
When asked about joining #TeamEverlast Mikaela stated, “I’m thrilled to be partnering with Everlast. It’s been something I’ve wanted for years and now that I’ve turned professional, it makes perfect sense to train and compete using the best and most iconic boxing gear available, Everlast.”
As an amateur, Mayer was a national Golden Gloves and U.S. national champion before competing in the Rio Olympics in 2016, where she made it to the women’s lightweight quarterfinals. She made her pro debut at the age of 27 in her hometown of Los Angeles on August 5th, 2017, where Mayer quickly overpowered her opponent Widnelly Figueroa. She staggered Figueroa with a right hand in the 1st round, then scored a knockdown with a series of punches moments later and the referee stopped the fight at 1:15 resulting in a TKO victory for Mayer.
Since then, Mayer has improved her record to 2-0 with 2 KO’s. She aims to improve upon her already perfect record on December 9th at Madison Square Garden when she takes on veteran Nydia Feliciano (9-8). Mayer is currently trained by 1996 U.S. Olympic head coach Al Mitchell and coach Gabe Flores in Stockton California. In an interview with ESPN, Mitchel explained that “She’s got confidence. She listens. She’s humble. She’s what you want (in a fighter).” Mikaela has natural talent, strong boxing skills, footwork, speed, and power. She is a force to be reckoned with and she is determined to become a champion.
“We have been fans of Mikaela since she started making waves in the amateurs, we were pleased to see her sign with Top Rank and we’re excited to start working with her officially in her pro career,” said Chris Zoller, CMO at Everlast. Chris Beadon, Sports Marketing Manager at Everlast, went on to explain that “Mikaela is a great addition to #TeamEverlast and we can’t wait to build amazing content around her journey as a professional boxer.”
