Round 9: Image & Marketability
Your entourage is important (to you) but they can also be treacherous (to you). Most athletes are harmed, financially by family and friends… protect yourself. Make sure everyone has a job (working for you) if you are compensating them. Make sure everyone has their own money if you all are going out to eat, or party. Make sure it is understood that people have to ‘ask you’ before they do anything on your dime.
Those things above may seem silly and you may think it is not needed but you won’t understand it, until you actually go through it. Instead of having to experience it, handle it accordingly ahead of time and protect yourself, beforehand.
During fight week, make sure everything is cleared by someone that you have appointed to handle your business matters. Any extra flights, hotels, per diems or things that could possibly come out of your pocket needs to be handled by someone you trust that will do as you ask.
Some people are just around for the lights, camera and the action.
Be aware and protect yourself at all times.
