UFC 197 rebranded as UFC 196

The injuries to Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum has forced the Ultimate Fighting Championship to do a little bit of rebranding. It has recently been reported that the original UFC 196 changed itself to UFC Fight Night: Hendricks vs Thompson. The match-up of Johny Hendricks and Stephen Thompson is now the main event and will be aired on Fox Sports 1 instead of Pay-Per-View.

With this news, the original UFC 197 which takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on March 5th has now been rebranded as UFC 196 according to Sherdog. The new UFC 196 will still feature a lightweight title of Rafael dos Anjos vs Conor McGregor, as well as women’s bantamweight champ Holly Holm vs Meisha Tate.

While nothing is confirmed, it is likely that the UFC will add another PPV numbered event in between now and July 9th when UFC 200 is supposed to take place. Stay tuned for more information!
