A Brief Fight History

In January of 2015, he went on to defeat Bryan Vera, another tough fighter that many expected Willie to lose to. He proved them all wrong by earning the unanimous decision over Vera and once again proved that he is among the elite at the middleweight division. Less than 4 months later, he fought Gennady Golovkin for the middleweight championship of the world in a nationally televised fight on HBO.

In June 2016, Willie took on the 2015 Boxcino middleweight champion, John Thompson (17-3, 6 KOs). Willie was coming off a 13 month layoff and dropped Thompson twice en route to a unanimous decision and his 20th victory. Willie won his most recent fight on September 17th, 2016 when he faced Gabriel Rosado. In a one sided fight Willie not only beat Rosado in a Unanimous Decision but he captured the WBO Inter-Continental Middleweight Title, improving his ranking to become the #9 Middleweight in the world.

Willie fought Billy Joe Saunders in the UK for the WBO World Middleweight Title, but lost by unanimous decision on 9/16/17.  Willie got back in the ring at the Barclay’s center on the Wilder Ortiz card, and won by UD.
