Jorge Linares captured Anthony Crolla’s WBA lightweight title over the weekend. Both fighters showed incredible skill but Linares proved to have a stronger desire to win than his UK opponent winning on the scorecards by unanimous decision (115-114, 117-111, 115-113). Most commentators and observers only had the defending champion ahead on the scorecards in only 3 rounds.
Crolla stated “I have no complaints,” he said. “He rocked my world, I’m not going to lie, my head is still spinning. I am absolutely gutted. It was a pleasure to share a ring with him and he is the best fighter I have fought but I never celebrate losing. I have to make sure I win a rematch.”
After Crolla voiced his desire for a rematch his promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed that their had been an agreement to make the rematch happen in the future in Manchester, but did not hint as to when we would see that rematch take place.
A rematch with Crolla is not the only option for Linares, rumors have started that the next fight could be between himself and Terry Flanagan, the current WBO champion, as long as the governing bodies can come to an agreement. Other possibilities include Rances Barthelemy and Robert Easter, but as you know by now, it is almost impossible to predict upcoming matches.
