American Heavyweight Rocky Marciano went undefeated in his career and held the world heavyweight title from 1952 to 1956. During his 4 year rain Rocky successfully defended his title six times, against Jersey Joe Walcott, Roland La Starza, Ezzard Charles (twice), Don Cockell, and Archie Moore.
An incredibly storied career was filled with smaller victories that were perhaps more historic than his title fights. On October, 27 1951 the then 28-year-old Marciano took on the 37-year-old Joe Louis. Coming into the bout, Marciano was a 13-to-10 underdog. Marciano upset Louis winning by TKO in the 8th round. Louis chose to end his storied career with that fight with an impressive record of 66 wins and 3 losses, 52 wins by way of KO.
Louis had a passion for golf before and after boxing, he went on to be one of the first African Americans to play in the PGA and was instrumental in changing the “Caucasians Only” by law which was finally amended in 1961.
